TSA expected to extend mask requirement for air travel through much of the summer

Passengers, almost all wearing face masks, board an American Airlines flight to Charlotte, on May 3, 2020, in New York City. Eleonore Sens | AFP | Getty Images The Transportation Security Administration is expected to extend a requirement that air travelers wear masks in airports and during flights for several more months, people familiar with the matter said. An announcement could come as early as Friday and could extend the requirement, which had been set to expire May 11, until mid-September, the people said. The TSA didn't immediately comment. The agency started requiring people wear masks in airports and during flights on Feb. 2, following an order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. DNA Exclusive: COVID-19, vaccine waiting list and shortage of doses

[ad_1] New Delhi: Even as the country is moving towards phase 3 of the vaccination drive against COVID-19 in which people in the age group of 18-45 years would be inoculated, several states have conveyed their inability to start the rollout due to a shortage of doses. Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary on Friday (April 30) discussed the growing list of people demanding vaccines and why they will have to wait a bit longer. About two and a half crore people aged between 18 and 45 years have registered for vaccine since April 28. These numbers are increasing by the hour. But none of these people have got a date to get the vaccine. And that's why we are calling it the waiting list of the vaccine. The reason for this is that the states do not have sufficient stock to start the drive. According to the government of Maharashtra, Serum Institute of India, which makes Covishield, has asked them to wait till May 15 for the doses. The state has ordered 7 crore doses of the vaccine. In

Core sector output grows 6.8% in March on low base

The output of eight infrastructure sectors grew at 6.8% in March—a 32-month high— as a result of the low base of last year, giving a false sense of normalcy. This comes against the backdrop of a raging Covid-19 pandemic and slow vaccinations, threatening to delay any meaningful revival in Asia’s third-largest economy. The output of coal (-21.9%), crude oil (-3.1%), refinery products (-0.7%), and fertilizers (-5%) continued to contract, according to data released by the industry department on Friday. However, that of natural gas (12.3%), steel (23%), cement (32.5%), and electricity (21.6%) expanded in double digits. Overall, the core sector contracted 7% in 2020-21 against the 0.4% growth in the preceding year. March, April, and May growth numbers for core sector and industrial growth were expected to be high and misleading, as they come on the back of sharp declines registered last year, said Madan Sabnavis, chief economist at Care Ratings. “March was just the beginning of the lockdown
