New labour rules with change in work hours, pay to come into effect from Oct 1?

The Narendra Modi government may come up with some changes in the four labour codes that were passed in Parliament to ensure the new rules are implemented across the country from October 1. The four new codes on industrial relations, wages, social security and occupational health safety (OSH), and working conditions will rationalise 44 central labour laws, the government has said. According to reports, all the four codes will be implemented at one go. The existing provisions of the new rules will lead to an increase in working hours for employees from nine to 12 hours, while the in-hand salary will also see a change. Under the new wage code, allowances have been capped at 50 per cent, which will lead to half of the monthly pay being calculated as basic wage. Provident fund (PF) contribution is calculated as a percentage of basic wage, which includes basic pay and dearness allowance. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has finally unveiled a special two-month campaign in order to bring back the individual lapsed policies, the state-run insurer said on August 23. Named the 'Special Revival Campaign,’ the programme was launched today and will go on till October 22, 2021, it said. LIC would also give concession on late fees in terms of incentive for policyholders so that they get back their insurance policies. Under the 'Special Revival Campaign', policies of specific eligible plans can be revived within five years from the date of the first unpaid premium, subject to certain terms and conditions, the insurer said in a release. The campaign has been launched from August 23, 2021 to October 22, 2021, the release said. Policies which are in a lapsed condition during the premium paying term and not completed policy term are eligible to be revived in this campaign, it said. Delhi University(DU) decides to implement NEP from next academic session

[ad_1] Delhi University(DU) decision to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) from the next academic year has triggered a row with varsity teachers' body to call a strike today. The decision to go on a strike was taken after the Standing Committee on Academic Matters, in its meeting on Monday, approved the implementation of the policy from 2022-23. The NEP is a four-year undergraduate programme and it gives multiple entries and exit options for students. The committee, however, deferred discussion on the implementation of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The Standing Committee’s recommendations will come up for discussion in the Academic Council meeting on Tuesday. The university had formed a 42-member high powered committee to look into the NEP’s implementation. The committee in its recommendation has asked that the University should conitnue with the three-year undergraduate programme but to “assimilate in its structure" a four-year degree p

E-tailers seek tweaks in proposed rules

India’s top e-commerce companies, represented by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), have sought changes to the proposed e-commerce rules, positing that the proposals harm the interests of consumers. IAMAI’s members include top e-commerce companies, including Flipkart, Amazon, and Tata group companies. In a letter to the consumer affairs ministry, a copy of which was reviewed by Mint, IAMAI alleged the new rules will not only deny online sellers a level-playing field, but will also unfairly impact thousands of small suppliers to the e-tailers. More importantly, the rules will adversely affect the interests of millions of customers who have embraced e-commerce amid the pandemic, the letter said. Govt unveils ₹6L-crore monetisation scheme

The government will raise ₹ 88,000 crore this year by leasing infrastructure assets of central government ministries and state-run companies under a ₹ 6 trillion National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) it unveiled on Monday. The funds will then be used to build new infrastructure assets, helping boost economic growth in Asia’s third-largest economy. Annual targets under the four-year pipeline have been set at ₹ 1.62 trillion for FY23, ₹ 1.79 trillion for FY24 and ₹ 1.67 trillion in the following year. The top five sectors by value under the government’s asset monetization programme are roads (27%), railways (25%), power (15%), oil and gas pipelines (8%) and telecom (6%). Among projects the government plans to lease are 26,700km of roads, 90 passenger trains, 400 railway stations, 28,608 circuit km transmission lines, 286,000km of Bharatnet fibre network and 14,917 towers owned by state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd. New Labour Code: Working hours, salary structure to change from October 1, check other details

Come October 1, the Narendra Modi government is coming with a lot of changes in the rules of labour law. This new rule states that the employees working hours are going to be increased from 9 hours to 12 hours in the new labour law.  Besides that, the in-hand salary will also change after the new law is implemented.  According to the new draft rule, the basic pay will be 50% or more of the total salary. This will also change the salary structure of most employees, as the non-perks part of the salary will be less than 50 per cent of the total salary.
