China races to rival the U.S. with its own GPS system — but one analyst says it won't overtake the U.S. yet

China is set to become a major player in the "highly lucrative" satellite navigation market, as it seeks to compete with the U.S. government-owned Global Positioning System (GPS), an analyst said Monday. But China's homegrown Beidou system is not likely to overtake the GPS system for now, said Craig Singleton, adjunct fellow at the hawkish Foundation for Defense of Democracies. "China has marked a major step in its race to increase market share in this highly lucrative sector," Singleton told CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia." "The completion of the system also reaffirms China's status as a world power. It represents a major declaration about its technical independence from the West, which carries wide-ranging geopolitical implications," said Singleton. (Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images) Getty Images The Denver Nuggets saw their title chances close entirely when Jamal Murray went down with his ACL tear against the Golden State Warriors on April 12th. At least, that is what most thought. The team responded to that catastrophic loss with a 13-5 record over the final 18 games of the regular season. One of the main drivers of that success was Michael Porter Jr.  Porter checks nearly every box you can ask for from a statistical standpoint in judging offensive stardom. Need a shooter? A 44.5 percent 3-point marksman that stands 6’10 tall should do just fine. Looking for efficiency? His 64.8 effective field goal percentage ranks in the 98th percentile among forwards. Thousands of restaurants could close due to Covid restrictions, many others struggling | Thaiger

Thailands newest wave of Covid, as well as the most virulent, and the lockdowns and restrictions because of it, is set to ruin hundreds of restaurants. One restaurant owner, 79 year old Kamol Trisitthichet, who owns Arlek Ratchawongse, spoke to Thai media about his ongoing struggles. He says that his business has lost 500,000 baht since the pandemic started. Further, despite being open for take away, his traditional Chinese establishment is not ideally suited for take away. “Take-away or online deliveries aren’t recommended and my regular customers know well that I am against it”. The restrictions that have been killing the restaurant industry, such as dine in only (ending may 17), and restricted hours in “dark red” zones, and only allowing 25% of capacity, have meant that businesses have to compromise the dining experience, adding pressure to opening hours, and depriving the restaurants of potential customers. According to some experts, the Covid-19 ...

German annual inflation rate hits highest mark in a decade in May

Germany's annual inflation rate jumped in May to its highest level in a decade, preliminary data showed Monday, driven by surging energy prices and one-off effects linked to the pandemic. Consumer prices in Europe's top economy rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year, the Destatis statistics agency said, as Germany mounts a recovery from the coronavirus outbreak. The last time that rate was reached was September 2011. Prices rose by 0.5 percent compared with April. German inflation has ticked up steadily since the start of the year, partly because of the introduction of a carbon tax and the end of a six-month sales tax cut aimed at mitigating the economic damage from the pandemic. The May spike was mainly driven by a 10-percent hike in energy prices year-on-year, Destatis said, up from nearly eight percent in April, when inflation grew 2.0 percent year-on-year. Food prices were up 1.5 percent while the services sector marked a 2.2-percent hike. Using the European Central Bank's pr...

Interestingly, Dhoni came up with a hilarious response and won the internet.  "Sir yes sir, any tips sir," Dhoni had written in response. @urssrilu666 sir yes sir, any tips sir ...

COVID-19: How to use an oxygen concentrator at home

[ad_1] In many places, COVID-19 management has been seriously hampered by the inability of patients to find beds. With hospitals being filled up to their capacities, patients are having to take necessary steps to take care of themselves at home — and this includes using an oxygen concentrator at home. An oxygen concentrator uses the air to filter oxygen and is the best solution to oxygen supply at home. Patients access this oxygen through a mask or a cannula. It is generally used for patients with respiratory issues and with the ongoing crisis of COVID-19 , can be very useful for patients whose oxygen levels drop. “A concentrator is a device that can provide oxygen for hours, it does not need to be replaced or refilled with anything. However, to help people with oxygen supplementation, one needs to know the right way to use an oxygen concentrator,” said Dr Bela Sharma, additional director, Internal Medicine, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram.
