Indian users spend over 5 hours daily on their smartphones: Ericsson - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Smartphone users in India spend at least 92 minutes a day watching videos on their smartphone and around 89 minutes daily browsing the internet. On an average, Indian smartphone users spend at least three hours a day watching videos and browsing the internet, as per new ‘The Future of Urban Reality’ report by Ericsson Consumerlab.
Ericsson also claimed that 46% of those surveyed spent time on use of e-learning platforms during the pandemic with the average time among all Indians using a smartphone is 5 hours 24 minutes.
The report highlights that internet users in India have on average increased their time online by 3.4 hours per day due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. “Students and the working population have additionally added two to three hours per day for remote studies and work. Around 10% increase in usage levels of new types of Information Communication Technology-services,” the report added.
“91% surveyed use the Android Operating system while only 7% use iOS. Most people (25%) spent their time on smartphones for Film/video as compared to for browsing (19%) and voice calls (10%), it added.
Giving a glimpse of the future of 5G in India, Ericsson said that four in five smartphone users are interested in acquiring a 5G handset during 2021. Other findings of this report claimed, “36% of Indians believed it's OK to monitor people’s information for safeguarding against crime, as compared to 13% who felt the same globally.”
IT also highlighted that 20% of smartphone users stand for 60% of the ARPU and 86% of the data traffic. “Seven in 10 believe their current mobile provider is market leader in most areas 58% of all smartphone users rank their own mobile service operator as the expected market leader in 5G,” it said.
